| The County Assessor's Office supervises the valuation and classification of property as directed by Minnesota Statute and the Minnesota Department of Revenue to complete an equitable property tax assessment.
The Assessor is required by State law to assess all property at its full market value, which is generally very close to the value the property would sell for under normal conditions. We assess the property as of January 2nd of each year. The value is based on sales which occurred during a 12-month period. A notice of valuation is mailed in the spring to each property owner that has a change in estimated market value or classification. The taxes due on this property will be used to calculate taxes payable in the following year. The County Assessor is an appointed position.
